Launched in 2015, the XDiavel represents Ducati’s successful next step into the sports cruiser market segment. The design elements, however, retain and transmit Ducati’s values and identity, which are easily recognisable to fans of the brand in so many of its classic and emblematic motorbikes. Founded in 1926 as Società Scientifica Radio Brevetti Ducati, the company originally made radio components, with its first engine produced in 1946. Since then, it has gained worldwide prestige as a high-performance racing brand. The XDiavel, although modern, is clearly part of the core Ducati family, nested as it is within the company’s design tradition; jurors highlighted the complexity of its design and its overall aesthetic qualities in their assessment. Innovative design and high quality support Ducati’s positioning within the motorbike market, with its designs being developed by the company’s in-house design centre, in collaboration with the R&D and other areas of the company. The company’s approach to complex design and development supports its capacity to adapt to, and at the same time redefine, market trends.
