Fantastic to see this film commemorating the quietly brave sailors of the Hull trawler fleet to which i am proudly related, All my uncles and my grandfather on my mums side, the Smiths of Walker Street sailed with the fleet and my uncle Tommy was lost in the wreck of the Lady Jeanette, who slipped her moorings and capsised in the Humber... So dont look at that river as merely a bridge across it was a gateway to Adventure, Fortitude and the native bravery and humour of ordinary seamen doing what they loved and living it up when they were home on shore like there was no tommorow. Well who knew if they;d be back to spend it after the next trip? Who knew? Only the sea herself. My mind goes out to The Fieldsend family who lost their son on the Gaul and to the many others who never returned with your fish for your chips...Remember that every time you eat fish, some brave soul has had to bring it you home...remember that all you onshore heroes...

These early scenes of St. Andrew's Dock in Hull show how little it changed throughout its lifetime, from the coal bunkering to its icing and ice crushing systems. We also see Lady avini's maiden voyage out of the lockpits and scenes of the Norwegian Fjords. The Distant Grounds series, mostly made from footage taken by the UK trawler crews themselves, is dedicated to the British deep sea fishermen who operate from the ports across the country, remembering their hard work and sacrifice, especially those who have been lost at sea.
