I was one of the 20 people that built the fairweather`1....was built in arizona and later transported to terminal island...after the hulls were assembled and we got the engine going and cruised down to san diego to complete the project...but!... as often happens we ran out of dollars and the crew had to go to work on land jobs...several of the partners quit the project and went separate ways....the fairweather was meant to be and experimeant in and ocean-going life style that would later branch out to others who wished to enjoy the same life style...but that came to and end when the money ran out completely and i stopped feeding the crew out of my pocket.....miles soon had a catamaran of his own...and the crew was left holding the bag...
this was not bob miles first sailng adventure he had one prior to the fairweather...down in honduras.....that crashed and again the crew was left holding the bag....
and by the way the fairweather was 85ft long and was the largest cat on the water at the time.... -

And yes it was a good ol Aussie who said cant buy it bugger it Ill build it. Sorry guys.

TIMESTREAM PICTURES presents COME SAIL AWAY In 1979 Robert D. Miles designed what was at that time the largest sailing catamaran in the world with over 3,000 sq. ft of living and deck space and accommodations for 20 live aboard people. The ship known as the "FAIRWEATHER ONE" was constructed in Phoenix Arizona by Robert and a group of partners. Once the hulls and center section was completed it was then transported in three modules to Long Beach, California where it was assembled and launched in early 1980. This film is the building, transporting, and sailing of the ship as well as the motivation behind its construction. Robert D. Miles would like to thank all of his earlier partners and project participants for their contributions and hard work. "FAIRWEATHER ONE" was a special project created to test the "Live Aboard" lifestyle and the ability of people to work together towards a common goal.
