Ich hatt' einen Kameraden, R.I.P

52 men died with this boat, I thought it was illegal to dive on a war grave
-
Stands testament to brave young men, even though they were the enemy it's still sad.

Why are women yakking?

I was expecting some interior, but still good vid. Like an old veteran staying out of every mess we are making today.

The U-boat U166 very haunting and one could expect the U-boat to surface after all of these years. The wreck in good shape and maybe could be raised. What a cool drive! Bravo!

I have added your cool video to my Interactive Google Map of Sunken WWII Ships https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1x7Q2wEHD_NV-5MeFWcWB2BRH97Y

Sad and Sobering. Split in two. A horrific and sudden death to her and her crew. Yet also, very interesting. She is astonishingly well preserved. The worst seems to be that the wooden decking has been eaten away. Very little growth or as much metal degradation as I would expect for something being exposed at the bottom as long as this boat has been. Lack of oxygen for the reason as to the state of preservation? Or something else?

german U-boots had two periscopes, both visible at 1:46 the forward one which is the famous one for movie scenes is called the observation periscope. it was larger and had x6 zoom, these were viewed in the control room and were never used in attacks as they were easy to spot.
the second persicope, slightly obsquered in this footage behind the first one was the attack perisocpe, which was used from inside the conning tower itself -
As a German it´s really emotional..
-
Nice clear high-resolution video. You can see the periscope at 1:46.
