You can fix a glass boat. Mine has had a couple of holes. My plastic Capella has fared no better. Salvage is quite the spot, we play there regularly. Quidi Vidi narrows has done some damage to kayaks:. A placid little spot that has hidden teeth.

I use the old 'Stay away from the rocks' technique. It's worked fine for me.

I have one! - but a playboat wouldn't have really worked in that location (large but non-steep waves) really need the speed you can get from a sea kayak in that situation

@GBPaddling - I did find some of the rock in the bow of the boat... so I'm sure it was smart'ing a little as well! - I think the lack of sound until the impact makes it worse then it really was, still makes me flinch though :)

@Chummy690650 - Yeah if it'd been a glass boat it wouldn't have been floating at the end of that. I wish I'd thought of getting the damage video as well, but I was pumped full of adrenaline :) - I'll do that next time for sure!

A shot of the damage would have been interesting! I'd hate to think what that would have done to a glass boat.

@alanshunter - Keep an eye out for the final Atlantic Paddling Symposium video I found another angle on this hit, my boat comes ~5-7ft up out of the water before settling on the wave. Definite pton, full stop hit :(

How to put a hole in your boat... this hurt. Boreal Designs Baffin vs Salvage NL - Canada Rock The three bolts for the skag control on the baffin also managed to punch a hole through my dry suit and three layers of fleece taking a chunk out of my knee. I'm not sure if it's because of boat flex or because my knee slid a bit. The pegs were super solid. Camera - ContourHD with Flat helmet mount (it stayed on!)
