Here I look at some vintage Timberland and LL Bean boat shoes that were made in Maine, USA [update see Timberland PS below]. Back in the late 70s and early 80s there was a great selection of high-quality boat shoes that were offered by various manufactures and brands. Sperry invented the boat shoe back in 1935 and over the years lots of Maine based companies got into the boat shoe business. Now the Highland Shoe Co is one very few that are still cranking out hand-made super high-quality boat shoes in the USA. The company later changed its name to the Timberland Company following on the success of the Timberland boot. Manufacturing moved to Tennessee in the 1980s. Timberland later opened overseas factories, first in the Dominican Republic and then in China. Also see: http://www.frederick.com/Made_In_The_USA-a-2868.html
