A boat with a family of 5 ran aground today after experiencing engine problems. The Newport Beach lifeguards quickly responded to our 911 call and safely evacuated the entire family (and their dog!). The lifeguards were also able to turn the boat and tow the boat back into the ocean. Hats off to the Newport Beach Lifeguards; I know this only shows the end of the rescue but the boat was resting on some rocks and *completely* out of the water before they arrived. One big wave could have capsized the boat and thrown everyone off. BTW, the lifeguards swam *to* the boat through surf and rocks because this beach wasn't easily accessible (some of the lifeguards got pretty scuffed up during the swim to the boat). Again, hats off to them -- there's no way anyone could have done a better job.
