they are actually fairly common to see in backyards around my area or ones that look very close they all had the big fins, I live in a coastal area and everyone that had one back in the day must have hung onto them or bought them more recently for restoration. I've seen at least 6 or 7 around here throughout the years.

This is the funniest boat I have ever seen

And i have a question for you. What would you recommend to support our hulls while working on them?
I ask this because I've seen some guys that use a sort of automotive carousel, i don't want to use block supports because of the stress that might put on an old flabby hull. Or am i just over complicating things here?
And yesss, in case you wondered, the yard I work at is a fresh start up, the guy took me in because he saw some skill in me.
I'm just trying to soak up as much as i can now........... -
This was a very useful video, I just started my new job at a small ship yard, where we restore old boats. I was working on an old 20 foot fishing boat, and I ran into a lot of the same problems you ran into.
Lot's of old shotty patch jobs, were the fiber didn't adhere, and just cracked all over the place, turned out we also had to rip out all the foam, it's a giant mess.
I was constantly ripping of entire sections of CSM, later we found out that was because of the repairs that had been done, while the foam was saturated.
But, to see how you handled the patches were you sanded away almost all of the material, was the most important part for me.
I was a bit worried about ruining the boat, but now a can see that it's "just" a matter of lot's of sanding and fibering.
Again very useful, and thanks for your work on this channel, like you said, THIS STUFF IS GOLD! Yes it is! -
This is a really helpful video! Why do you use chopped strand fiberglass and not fiberglass cloth? Thank you - really appreciate your work.

Looks like your boat was a 1958 Playmaster Deluxe ($845 by 1956 price guide) with a yellow hull and black deck that was repainted sometime in its life. Very cool boat.

Saw the finished product and and saddened to even think the owners didn't want to drape a '58 Johnson Javelin off the back of this boat. Could've painted it in the same colors and the chrome would have been awesome.

Dude, isnt that he boat used in the 60's era BATMAN series as a BATBOAT? Im not joking, I think its the Adam West special....look it up?!
If it is....that would be so incredibly freaking cool....to fix it up as the bat boat!

Hey thanks for your quick reply. It is 1:19 am here and I cannot stop watching your vids as they are so helpful. The boat I just got er hum... I haven't a clue what it is apart from a wreck haha. it cost me £99 with a trailer too!the seller mentioned vintage fletcher, plancraft? . lick of paint and an outboard motor and she will be a good one.. after atching your work i think not. alot of TLC needed . -
I have a old Norris craft fiberglass v-bottom. Outside is great. The inside I have a problem. Half the floor is dry rotted. I'm wanting to repair it just to be safe. It does float. I already tested that. How would I go about restoring the old wood inside without causing damage and alot of $

Make sure to watch the rest of the vids on this restoration :-)

That's funny, I was calling it the bat boat the whole I I was working on it!
-
I was shocked when I saw the Batboat! A couple of my friends had a Playmaster back in high school. Everybody called it the Batboat. It was painted in the same style as the '57 Chevy Bel Airs, the main body color being blue and the wings were white, topsides were white too. My friends traded that boat back and forth between eachother at least 3 times that I can recall. Everybody had a blast with that boat. I vaguely remember the stories but I'll never forget their laughter. I'll continued on FB.
