I think that you are misunderstanding me. I never thought for a minute that the racers should assist in the search and rescue. My point is that when an accident like this occurs, knowing that the men are probably dead, out of respect the race should stop until the men are removed from the area, like in car racing. Again, thanks for all the info. I appreciate it, since I don't know the sport.

Racers aren't allowed to stop at the scene of an accident. They aren't trained in SAR.
-
This type of accident, a blowover, is rare in offshore racing. Barrellrolls and stuffs are far more common.
-
Exactly...the racers CANNOT STOP because they aren't trained for SAR.
-
Kathy let me further explain that the racers are not trained for SAR(Search and Rescue). They would just get in the way and possible hinder rescue efforts. And there was another fatality that wkend who was a good friend of mine(Joey Gratton). :( Offshore racing is possibly the most dangerous sport in the world because of the speeds and changing racecourse. As to surviving a blowover, there have been 3 boats that have done that in the last 3 yrs. None have survived.
-
Thanks for the info. I have to say that I don't think too much of a sport that continues when there has been an accident and possible injuries or in this case, death. Do the men ever survive these types of accidents?
-
They are not allowed to stop unless the race is black flagged and that rarely happens, especially in the World Championship race.
-
I don't think a wave caused this I think it was a hole in the water that the transom fell into. Another factor I believe was the 8000lbs of 4 motors and 4 drives back there which made the bows come up even more. There was another double fatality blowover on Lake Cumberland last Sunday. Counting the Victory team in 2010 that makes three in three years. RIP to all six good men.

its hard to stop going that fast and they are going so fast not much wake is made

How come the other race boats kept going around? You think they would be courteous enough to stop and allow the water to calm down so the men could be rescued.
-
The throttle man had a heart attack and left it at full throttle. He was 74. They also flipped the worst way. The boat hit the water backward. The g force killed them instantly. The cockpit was destroyed.
-
The bright side, to say, they died doing something they love...may they rest well.

0:28 kudos to mr palm eh di palma !

The choppers where way too late the two boats that drove past would've been the closest to help. "Time is of the essence" Especially when you don't have any.
-
2 boats drive by when they could've stop who knows they may have got them out of the water in time. If they knew how to swim a bonus but unfortunatly that wasn't the case.
-
@cjf334 2 out of 3 died, you stop becasuee guy dies from football?
-
@cjf334 you are a fucken moron. That's all kthxbai
-
ok well whatever even worse boat sinks 2 people inside and no one comes out lets keep racing. must think there down there with sponge bob eating a crabby patty fucking idiots...... ya ya and ya thy got air tanks in the boat and all but still fucking dumb they should be alive the crash didnt kill them
-
@cjf334 Dude get your facts straight. Big Thunder only had two guys in the boat, Jeff Tillman and Bob Morgan. Joey gratton was killed in a different crash on a different day. No third person in Big thunder, and the boat was definitely floating upside down. There is no criminal case being opened.
