BEST OF: Heavy Weather sailing in big storms

Hi there. I just came back from Cyclades and by God it was the most intense feeling I've experienced in my life. I'm telling ya, I've done some nasty shit on my own like extreme motorcycling, scuba diving, parachute jumping...but nothing prepared me for this. I'm not a skipper, my friend is, and he took me with him in this trip to show me what does it look like. Oh, man, we took a Bavaria 49 in this journey and, if I've crapped my pants when we caught the first storm on our way from Athens to Kythnos, you should've seen me all white like chalk between Delos and Mykonos stuck in 7-8 N-NW winds. It was night, the wind was roaring like a wounded lion and he was throwing punches in my back with huge fists...and like this wasn't enough, every now and then huge swimming pools of sea water were poured on top of our heads just to give us a clue who's the boss 'round there. After 5 hours of raw sailing in these conditions we miraculously did well and we rocketed into Myconian harbour with a quarter Genoa sail flagging in the wind because we couldn't manage anymore to (how do you say it?) close it? or trim it? I say it was scary but not as scary as my mother in law so I've survived. After all this, I can say to you guys that you're not nuts...Oh, no, no, no! You're the craziest and ballsiest mother fuckers ever! I admire you but that is definitely not for me. Godspeed.

No heavy weather sailing here. Just a bunch of low freeboard wet boats being pushed hard racing. Thats what all the spray is about.

I hate to burst anyone's bubbles here, but this video depicts some fairly benign sailing conditions. There is no "heavy weather" in any part of the video.

i was on the costa concordia.

Im sailing for 12 yrs by now and i went to some storms like that one but i didnt handle for an hour i tried it on my laser, 505, bavaria 38 and i almost s*it my pants. Congrats guys.
