The Bajaj Pulsar CS (Cruiser Sport) 400 has been long in the offing now and we just might see the model hit showrooms by the end of this year. The bike maker's performance cruiser that was unveiled as a concept at the 2014 Auto Expo was spotted testing for the first time, indicating that the model is indeed part of the future pipeline. Moreover, Bajaj Auto had stated earlier this year that its next launch will be a higher capacity motorcycle and this just might be it. While Bajaj had been focusing on the RS 200 and the likes for the past year now, the Pulsar CS400 will make an effective start for the company's foray into the larger displacement motorcycle segment. The camouflaged test mule reveals little in terms of aesthetic changes but the bodywork, LED tail lights and headlamp cluster indicate that the changes will be minimal compared to the concept. A midship exhaust unit is also visible in the spy shots. In fact, the test mule comes with the twin instrument console with one located conventionally on the handlebar, whereas a digital display unit was located on the fuel tank, similar to the Ducati Diavel. You can also see illuminated switch gear on the model. Mechanically though, the Bajaj Pulsar CS400 test bike does get some changes most noticeable being the conventional forks up front, instead of the Upside Down (USD) units seen on the concept. The move could be in a bid to keep the costs in check, while ensuring it does not directly compete with the KTM models. Power too is expected to be de-tuned on the CS400 as compared to the Duke 390, while the same 373.4cc single-cylinder engine will be serving purpose on this model as well. That said, expect the power output to be just under the 40bhp mark. More details on the Bajaj Pulsar CS400 can be expected to surface in the following months with the launch possibly towards the end of the year. It certainly is a big step up for the bike maker and will open new avenues for the company in the premium space. Expect the model to be priced under 2 lakh (ex-showroom).
