Considering the rising demand for 250cc-300cc bikes in India, Bajaj Auto has launched its most powerful motorcycle – Dominar 400 – in the country. First previewed at Auto Expo 2014 as the CS400 concept, the Bajaj Dominar 400 is based on the Pulsar RS200 platform which is already on sale in the country. The new 400cc Bajaj bike will face heat from the bikes like KTM 200 Duke, Mahindra Mojo and the upcoming BMW G310R. The Duke 390, with ABS (as a standard fitment), is priced at Rs. 1.95 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The Bajaj Dominar 400, on the other hand, is made available at an introductory price of Rs. 1.36 lakh. The KTM Duke 390 is powered by a 373cc single-cylinder engine churning out a peak power of 43bhp at 9,000rpm and 35Nm of torque at 7,000rpm. For transmission duties, there is a 6-speed gearbox. The bike carries a dry weight of 139kg, thus making it agile. The Duke 390 is an excellent machine to ride both on city as well as highways, thanks to its impressive power to weight ratio (316bhp per tonne). The Dominar 400 shares its engine with the Duke 390, but it has been detuned for achieving higher fuel efficiency. Equipped with Bajaj’s triple spark technology, this 373.2cc liquid-cooled motor equipped with fuel injection system. This motor makes a maximum power of 35bhp at 8,000rpm and 30Nm at 8,500rpm. This too gets the Duke 390’s 6-speed gearbox. The Duke 390 can do 0-100kmph sprints in just 5.5 seconds with a top speed of 160kmph. The Dominar 400 marks 100kmph from standstill in 8.3 seconds, and offers a top speed of 148kmph. Despite being an impressive performer, the Duke 390 can easily offer a fuel efficiency around 25-28kmpl. The Dominar 400, on the other hand, will return a mileage around 30-35kmpl – all thanks to its detuned power mill. Bajaj Dominar 400 Vs KTM Duke 390 Design and Features In terms of design and styling, the Duke 390 looks more or less similar to the Duke 200. It is quite difficult to find out the difference when the two bikes are on the road. Though, the Duke 390 features slightly larger tank, lightly lower positioned seat and different stickers and paint job. The bike looks more rugged than the smaller siblings. There are black lines that run from the rear brakes, trellis and other parts look different, while the contrasting orange trellis and the orange wheels make the wiring visible. Features like ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) and Metzelers come as standard on the bike. On the flip side, the Dominar 400 Cruiser Sport’s design is inspired from the Ducati Diavel. This performance bike also shares its styling cues with the 200NS, but is slightly bigger in proportion. The bike has large LED headlamp and well-designed front cowl with a sweptback visor. It comes equipped with a split instrument cluster with two units, gear shift indicator with white backlight. The bike also gets an LCD display on the fuel tank. Talking about features, the Bajaj Dominar has stepped saddle seat, signature Pulsar twin-slash LED taillights and larger alloy wheels.
