Damn what a stale mate usually army ants just attack havoc and here its like
Army ant:queen we have the genus 421 leaf cutter ants they are back with elites
Leaf cutter ant:alright men form your line we must raid the leaf!! -
can anyone put some research on to this? since this to me is very weird... ants tend to fight when part of different colonies regardless of how things are what's more is that these 2 ant species are both usually extremely agressive to things which stray on their path...
I have a feeling it has something to do with how the army ants and leafcutter ants need different stuff but I don't know...
anyone mind explaining this to me? -
those are not army ants
-
I think that they just communicate
-
The leaf cutters look like violent protesters.
-
Lead cutter soldier ants will kick ass
-
The army ants seemed very reluctant to go after the leaf cutters. Leaf cutter soldiers are powerful.
-
balance of terror ;-)

damn that a most busy road i ever seen
-
WTF?! why didn't they all start killing each other!
-
So strange. Army ants are violent and eat anything in their path but when they come across leafcutters they don't. Army ants usually attack anything bigger than them so they may not see that tiny leafcutters as threats.
-
Stalemate?
-
Hmm I think the leaf cutters are an acromymex octospinosis colony, no idea about the army ants because I don't research into them a lot.

This is AMAZING behavior, I wish somebody could explain how, WHY....there is no fighting here. Usually, this would mean war.......do leafcutters and Army ants have some kind of chemical scent that identifies them to on another as neutral? Do they know it would be mutual destruction? Leafcutter soldiers are some of the most aggressive and fierce warriors among the kingdom of ants, as are Army Ant soldiers.....yet...there appears to be a "ceasefire" in effect between the two species. This is indeed fascinating, really hope somebody educated on the subject fills us in, soon!

this is war - 30 second to mars

A trail of Eciton burchellii army ants in Costa Rica blocks the path of a leafcutter ant trail. The army ants hold the leafcutter ants at bay so the army ant workers can return to the nest with prey. The army ants kinda look like linebackers holding off the leafcutters. I never saw them fight although sometimes they looked like they were trying to threaten each other to psych the other ants out.
