great video love it

I am not into men or women sexually but looking at this from my standpoint, It seems like we are awesome!!!
-
Excellent video and well put together. This is probably the most difficult hurdle that couples face.I am glad that I/we were never faced with this obsticle as we learned to sail while dating. Get this! We had been dating about 3 months when my wife (girl friend back then) calls me at work and says "there's a sailboat listed in the for sale ads. Would you like to go take a look at it ?" I stood there at the phone dumb founded. And the rest is history.28 blissful years of sailing. Heck! Come to think of it, we've been sailing together, longer than we've married. First you make them into sailors, THEN YOU MARRY THEM.

one way to avoid yelling is to use VOX headsets when docking and anchoring. It allows people to keep their voices down.
-
In my humble, but very strong opinion, jumping on the dock during docking is DANGEROUS. If you end up in the water between the dock and the boat, it can even kill you. If you can't graciously step off, stay on the boat and let whoever does the steering make another pass.
-
Lovely video! I especially liked the part about not yelling at each other, or being disrespectful.
-
good info but edit with left and right sound.. stereo ~~

What an excellent video - Thank you Annie so much for this and researching the linked info.
and... I am so sorry to hear some men still yell at women. While both sexes have issues now and then with their partners, yelling at anyone is just not cool nowadays. -
Docking. Take the ASA Advanced Docking and Mooring class. The best $ 100. I ever spent. Saved our marriage, broken boat, broken legs and our boating life. We look like pros when we dock. We back in all the time.

LOVE this! Thanks for sharing :D

Thank you for that very informative video. My husband and I are starting to live our dream and we bought our boat about 3 months ago in Oriental, NC and have been working on getting it back home to St. Pete, FL. It has been very challenging at times with so many things going wrong but overall we love it and wouldn't trade it for anything. I love that I can spend all day, everyday with the love of my life and our little kitty. I don't mind the smaller space except for the kitchen, but as we travel I have gotten so used to a small kitchen so it doesn't bother me that much anymore. Our ultimate dream is to sail around the world and to have adventures beyond anyone's imagination. You showed us a few things that we need to work on more together so I am not so afraid ( Like planning out or trip together so I know where we are and what direction we are suppose to be going in. Especially when we are 50 to 100 miles off shore in the dark, with only a little moonlight to light the way.) Don't feel too bad about the docking video. We have had our issues with docking and also with leaving tight spaces. My husband actually just hit a pole today as we were docking in Fort Myers. It happens...lol. So thank you again and you can join our travels as well on our channel. Much love and respect to you. May you always have calm seas and fair winds. Michelle McGinnis

I have sent my wife on at least a dozen cruises and she always comes back. After 4-5 days I get my hopes up and a couple of days later she shows back up and tells me to pay the driver,

Although you based this on cruising, I wish all my friends would watch this video. Sailing is just window dressing for the topic. In my humble opinion, you've chimed in on what so many people don't seem to do when getting into a relationship. Irrespective of the activity, they don't seem to have meaningful communications with each other. No doubt this will help tons of people to get the "other" onboard with sailing, but I hope it helps others to learn to be effective communicators. I teach scuba diving in Florida and go through this exact situation with couples taking lessons, but it's one one persons dream. Would you cut-n-paste some scuba gear into this video and let me make it a prerequisite for couples taking dive lessons??? (j/k) As always, another fun and informative video, thank you!

Thank you for your reply. we are having a hard time, because brokers on the West coast and boat owners are dishonest. you talk to them over the phone and everything about the boar is great. they send you pictures and information telling you everything is great. So you commit to drive a thousand miles and when you get to Canada after crossing two borders and you see the boat, it's listing to one side by a foot. yes, a foot. the hull was soaked all the way through on one side. That's just one example. we have walked through over 50+ boats. And in Southern California, it's the same way. the last broker we worked with would lie to us by cutting actual repair costs in half. all this to try to fit the overall cost in our budget. but we will eventually find the right boat. I think we will have better luck in the Fall. selection is low this time of the year. Thank you for your moral support. Can't wait to see you guys cruising now that your boat is fixed.

What I don't understand is why the man is almost always on the helm maneuvering the boat into a slip while the woman is handling the lines. Man are usually stronger and they should be on the lines and/or holding of when something goes wrong.

Great video, really enjoyed and and loads of useful info, one quick question, do you have any idea how to get your other half over a fear of the sea, she had an experience with a rip tide as a kid and hates being on a boat. Can't put her on valium for 5 years non stop!!
"She is NOT a passenger, she is crew!" is one of our main tips at https://havewindwilltravel.com. There's no magic secret to getting your wife (husband, boyfriend, girlfriend, significant other) on board with cruising. She just needs to know the realities and infinite rewards of the lifestyle and want those. Share those basic philosophies with her first and cruising will become merely the means to your mutual end. Once she's on board in principle, get her (comfortably and confidently) on board in practice with sailing lessons and continued training and teaching together. "Put her behind the helm!" says Linus Wilson. "Make her retrieve a cushion," says Pam Wall. "Get over your fear of crossing an ocean!" says Lazy Gecko Brittany. And, most importantly: "Remember it is not about the boat or the destination, it is about your shared desires and the more fulfilling life you both want to live together," says Nick O'Kelly, author of Get Her on Board. I have worked hard to pull together lots of viewpoints, perspectives and advice from fellow cruisers and trusted sources for you all. If you are struggling to get your significant other on board with cruising, I hope you find this video as well as the resources and interview below helpful. Please let me know in a comment below.
