Ver, very interesting video. I am happy to know that I can buy new boat for that kind of price. I will be travelling in my van across Europe, but since I stumble upon your channel I decided to buy a narrow boat too.

12:37 Looks like your boat

Another way to do boat ownership here in the US is to buy a boat and then put it in charter service. (what you call "hire boats") If done right, the charter fees more than pay your costs (loan payments, upkeep and repairs, moorage and insurance, etc.) On the other hand, if done wrong you can loose a lot of money quickly so not for the faint of heart.

These kind of vlogs are the best part of your channel in my opinion.

Wow... I am learning a lot from you.... Thanks for all of the info....

David, congrats on producing an informative video.
About 3 years ago I paid a visit to Nick Thorpe Boatbuilding in Staffordshire and was so I impressed with his approach I ordered a 45" sailaway with a 45hp Barrus Shire engine. With sprayfoam, flooring a 200 gallon stainless steel water tank and the electrics including 3 kw combination inverter charger installede by a MIEE. I installed - wait for it a full size bath - and flushing toilet. Put a 240v Fridge and 4 ring induction hob on board and got the diesel CH (to just one radiator at the time) commissioned and set off.
It took me two years working on and off to complete the fit out. Why did I chose an oversized engine for this length of boat? Two reasons. Where I'm moored on the River Wey I have to transit the Thames to join the main canal network and I wanted a bit more powerr for travelling against the flow. Secondly it comes with a 250 amp domestic alternator which happily drives the washer drier via the inverter.
Here is a very short clip of the boat transiting the Bristol Channel From Portishead Marina to Sharpness: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqE4CwiAAO8
Here's some photos of the boat fresh out of the packet! https://www.facebook.com/NTBoats/photos/pcb.710339762343072/710338879009827/?type=3&theater

Golly, I enjoyed that presentation so much; very informative. Thanks a lot.

Hello, I think that if you paid 50,000 to 60,000 and you are happy with it then that is a good buy and I think at a nice price, thank you for the good information.

David, Thank you so much for taking the time to do your vlog. I've watched quite a few of them and really got a great insight for what my future may hold! I was wondering if you had any thoughts on, or seen narrowboats carrying motorbikes that could be used for commuting to work or the shops? Are there ramps or cranes to get them on or off? I quite fancy boating somewhere and then riding out for a bit with a nice floating home to return to!

Very useful thank you man

Very useful thanks once again

Another well made and informative video David, thank you. Tell me, is it easier to pay cash for these boats? I suppose it's all subjective on who you deal with and all.I was just wondering is cash easier to use in the canal boat world?

Great vlog as always very informative and edited well, i was wondering about the fibreglass boats in winter is it always bad for them if the river ices over?

I enjoy your vlog. I watched them all, and wait for the next.I have a question. Being from the U.S. I am not familiar with narrow boats. How far does the boat set in the water. From in side are your feet level with the water line? I know that's not right because of the upwards pump for the shower. Are your knees level with the water, or your waist? Where about on the inside wall is the water line?Thank you

I just watched the first videos of Narrowboat Zero Gravity. I think they have a bowthruster. Maybe something for you, or is that not very common for narrowboats?

The "tribble on your microphone needs a pair of googly eyes. ;)

Excellent vlogs, watch them all just waiting for the next one. My wife thinks I'm mad laughing with my headphones on at your dry sense of humour. Can't wait until next October when we make the plunge onto the cut..
