I just watched another review on this bike and he couldn't say enough positive things about it, it's like the opposite of this review ?
-
Just bought 2014 vstar 1300 touring new got a great deal. It didn't take long to realize this bike seems to be high geared. I understand where some of your comments are coming from about the power just have to rev out it a little more. Getting used to different shift points.Fith gear for 70 plus mph only it is smooth as silk at 85-90, purrs like a kitten. To sum it up the bike has great power , just needs more revs than most v-twins. Handles very easy I had a much lighter bike no problems making adjustment.
-
he's in top gear at 45mph,I guess he don't realize 1st gear is up to 45mph,these bike rev high .He's a complete dumbass.
-
This bike seems to be geared like my 2013 Suzuki C90T BOSS. If I put it into 3rd gear below 45 mph, it lugs like crazy. And, I don't take it out of 4th gear until at least 65 mph. These are high reving bikes that's all.
-
I've never watched a video made by a person who has no idea of what he's reviewing. The mistakes he makes are to many to mention. I hope he's getting paid for this. Nobody could be this stupid. If your making a decision based on this information your making a terrible mistake.

2012 yamaha road star is a Japanese Harley. I know be caused I own a s model toad star.
-
man, you're picky lol.
-
You seem to be a little picky and are complaining about so many little things. I understand you want the bike to be perfect, but there is no such thing as a perfect bike. There is such a thing as a perfect bike for you or me. I don't know man, you just seem like more of a HD fan, and you cant really compare a HD to a Vstar.
-
not a cruise control, and it's cable throttle, hence the cable coming out the back of the throttle tube, nothing deluxe except built in GPS, XM satellite radio and ipod connection.
-
Most of us who own this bike use the Garmin to give us our speed, it's exactly what you're saying just a glance and you've got your speed. Yeah it would be nice to have a tach but can't have everything.
-
Yes there are some short comings - lousy speedo guage - no tach - cornering will cause you to scrape the foot rests - no Yamaha cruise control. But your bias shows when you start talking about the engine performance and then state "it doesn't have the torque of a Harley 110" - comparing a 80 cubic inch to a 110 cubic inch is not legit. Second this bike is not designed as a torque thumper - this engine does rev willing and smoothly and at the same acceleration rate as the equivalent Harley. Also the overall reliability is superior to Harley and considering the equivalent Harley is at least 6 to 8 thousand dollars more expensive that's a consideration . Harley's are stolen more often and you insurance rates will be affected. Don't get me wrong - Harley's are a good buy but for different reasons. Your video was very informative but biased against this bike.
-
I purchased this model and I am very happy the transmission is geared high I can ride around town all day in 4th gear with plenty of go power acceleration is good. one thing that the guys said that I have to agree with is no engine breaking but that goes along with high gear ratio on a scale of 1-10 I would give this bike an 8

The V star isn't Yamaha's Harley competition; the Royal Star is.
-
Angel the V star 1300 is an awesome bike, I have rode a lot of different bikes from can ams to new Honda's and many other brands I even considered a couple of Harley's before i chose my first ever Yamaha I;ve always been partial to gold wings but for the money and cost of maintenance I chose the Yamaha v star over everything else I tried. It really comes down to what you want from a bike personally I like cruiser others love sports bikes for speed, I'd rather have comfort and speed which I get easily from my Vstar 1300 at 712 lbs even though the seats on Gold wings are a lot more comfortable the weight they have is something to consider one major problem I personally have with the gold wings are that they have very limited foot room I wear size 13 boots and sometimes I can't even find the foot brake on the gold wing. So you should really go to every dealership in your area and test drive all the bikes you think you would like then make a decision for me it just took one test drive of the V Star 1300 deluxe to know I loved the feel, comfort and power it provides and sure there are much faster bikes and if it weren't for the $6,000 difference I might have bought the Stratoliner with 113ci engine that's 1854cc's but everybody has different likes when it comes to what you ride so go try all that you can then decide and good luck.;

i never compare my bike to harley....

I have a 2013 1300 and I love it! Plenty of power for even two-up 70-75 mph riding...if you understand it's a short stroke engine that likes to rev. In the above video, you are in too high a gear a lot of the time.
Rider Magazine----June 2013: "It wasn’t long ago, 2006, that Harley’s biggest twin was 88ci, or 1,450cc.
It was air-cooled, had fuel injection and OHV two-valve cylinder heads,
and stock was good for about 65 horsepower and 75 lb-ft of torque at the
rear wheel. The fuel-injected V Star 1300 Deluxe’s engine is
liquid-cooled with overhead cams and four valves per cylinder, and makes
about 70 horsepower and nearly 76 lb-ft of torque, again at the rear
wheel. So it’s got a little more power than an entire generation of
Harley big twins. Sure, few of those TC88 engines were
ever left stock, but you get my point—the V Star 1300 Deluxe may have a
smaller engine, but it’s no slug."
As for windshields, I have a tinted 6" Cee Baileys sport shield for summer and use the 12" OEM during the colder time of the year. I've also added Memphis Shade lowers and with the 12" shield buffeting is almost nonexistent.
I also have a brand new Harley-Davidson Forty Eight and I've ridden the 1300 to the HD dealership several times to pick up accessories for the 48 and throw them in a saddlebag. One thing that always surprises the HD riders that walk over to look at my 1300 is how much metal vs plastic it has compared to other metric cruisers. Almost everything you tap on my friend's Suzuki C109 is plastic..fenders...most, if not all of the engine covers...plastic. The kawasaki and Honda cruisers are the same too...plastic everywhere. However, his C109 is a beautiful motorcycle! The V Star 1300 has three small, round chrome plastic covers on the engine that I replaced with the Star OEM billet aluminum covers for about $250 and they look fantastic.
The sound system is great too. If it's not clear and loud as hell, even at 75 mph, it's not adjusted right.
MotoUSA---March 2013: "Not only do the speakers pump out a loud
decibel reading the clarity of the sound is excellent. This is one of
the best stock performing dual speaker set-ups we’ve ever sampled."
I've test ridden several new Harley baggers ans tourers and, quite frankly, I LOVE them!
However, when you look at the value you get with a 1300 Deluxe and then compare it to a $25,000+ HD, it's hard to spend the extra $$$$ even with the MUCH better resale value a HD has.
For example, my local Yamaha dealer has one leftover 2013 1300 Deluxe on the showroom floor that can be bought OTD for under $10K. That's a TON of bike for the $$$$!
I've always loved Harley-Davidson and Yamaha motorcycles so I've had one foot in the "metric" camp and the other in the "American" camp. You can't beat the chrome and paint on a Harley-Davidson.
OTOH, it's hard not to see the incredible value a 1300 Deluxe represents...especially if you buy one that's been sitting on the showroom floor for a year or two.
Things must be pretty slow as far a motorcycle sales go because my Harley-Davidson dealer has quite a few "leftover" 2015 models sitting on the showroom floor. -
I have a 2014 model 7800 miles on if. GREAT bike. Its a cruiser not a sport bike. Rode 2500 miles in 4 days in july. This bike loves the highway. Really likes 75-80 mph. Really comfortable. Saddlebags hold over 7 gallons each. The "cruise control" is for the stereo. I love it. Change volume and tracks without removing hand garmin is of course touchscreen hasa large speed indicator so the speedometer location is not an issue. You cannot beat the 12 grand price tag. The reviewer should have learned the controls before riding. Again great bike. I rode hd electra glides for 3 years. 12 grand versus 30 for about the same bike. More power than you could ever want. Handles like a dream at all speeds. Low speed it handles great if you practice, which you should, I can maneuver it easily. Recommended highly for anyone wanting a big cruiser for low cost
-
You nailed it, I made a big mistake when I bought one of these, worst bike I have ever owned, counting the days untill I can pay enough down on it to get rid of it.
-
The 1300 is designed to rev. It's a short stroke motor. If you short shift it will vibrate and lag. If you Rev it out it really moves for the type of bike it is. When I had mine I never changed into 5th until at least 80km/h (50mp/h). It just isn't designed to be a low revving torque motor like a Harley.
This mid sized cruiser from Yamaha under the star brand might be the oldest platform they are currently selling. It feels dated, with just a couple seemingly modern touches added but they don't blend very well. Power wise it's hard to justify the performance to the cost especially since there's little else to the bike other than the basics. Visit http://TwoWheelObsession.com for all the new content!
