....and it's too heavy

My current bike is a 2006 BMW K1200GT. I love it. Those big ugly side boxes can each easily fit a XL size full face helmet- something the standard fitted Yamaha side boxes can't do due to the exhaust cutaways..
My last bike was an FJR Yamaha which I bought new in 2006 and kept for 7 years. I wish I had bought a BMW K1200. The weather protection, comfort, ease of handling ,all the toys like cruise, heated grips and seats, and the sheer pleasure of riding make the K1200 a much better bike. I drove all through France and Northern Spain on my K1200 and never ceased to be amazed at its ease of swallowing up miles - or Kms in Europe! -
I don't like those boring flat slabs of plastic slabs on the side and the squary ear muff baggage box look. Can you replace these panels with something from a third party that is more aggressive and sport bike looking?

Nice commentary, well done.

With the Fantastic Japanese Rocket FJR who needs an overpriced BMW??
-
@samihasib o yeh, we'll see in few years. If japan can do anything, remember, there's always a dady called China.
-
@czlssb what are you talking about I have a touring altered Honda CBR1100XX and I will be turning 100,000km km, with no issues except routine maintenance. My buddy has 175,000 KM on his ever single km put on by him and nthe bike is in showroom condition. My next bike will be a 2010 BMW K1300GT or an 09 K1200GT whatever the best deal is when I buy in 2013

Adjustable windscreen and handlebars?!! WOW! Those Oregon roads look like a great ride!
-
like the rt 1200 better.
-
hate the look
-
u r talking about the Chinese..... Japan make best qualiaty bikes..... so does europe...

Curious as to how the BMW handles compared to the Honda S.T. I would say the the Honda is a little cheaper due to the fact of no cruise control or heated seat or grips. Anyone out here had both?
-
To be precise, BMW-K valve checks are at 12k, not 6k. FJR's are very nice also.
-
The one thing reviewers never cover or compare is MPG. Let's face it, if you have 2000 miles to cover 45 mpg isn't going to impress you. Or your bank manager.. /:o

Having taken the GT on a 30 min test ride, I was amazed at how linear the powerband was! Not as much torque feel as my R1200gs, but incredable throttle-on power in ANY gear. A great SPORT touring bike as it handles like it weighs 200lbs!

I'll start looking, thx man
