Hi MrChrisGrieve, I haven't seen a Tayana 37 in person, but just looking at some info online, it looks like a really salty cruising boat! It almost looks like a copy of a Westail 32, and very different from other Bob Perry designed boats that I've seen. I really like pilot houses for being protected from heavy weather offshore. I bet you could find tons of discussion of this boat over at the sailnet, ssca, or discussion forums. Good luck and happy sailing, Drake

It's pretty amazing, eh?

Hey Drake. I've been interested in a 37 Tayana Cutter rigged Pilothouse. Ever been aboard one? Any thoughts on that particular boat? I live in Alton, IL and sail the Mississippi for now aboard a 27 foot hunter, so needless to say, not too many sailors around here. Looking to take a trip down the Mississippi to the keys. So any advice would be appreciated.

I just saw Mr. Forsyth's NW Passage video with this boat

Hi Taco, I love how well the Aries wind vane works in almost all conditions. I can rig both of the control lines to either starboard or port, so when I'm offshore for many days on the same tack, I rig them on the windward side so that I can lay down on the leeward side. I love the Hydrovane too. I sailed a Kelley Peterson 46 with a Hydrovane and was in awe at how well it worked. I love that it can be a backup ridder in the main rudder fails.

Interesting Westsail 42! About that wind vane: the Aries wind vane has lines for steering the helm. The hydrovane self steering wind vane does not have them, only a line for adjusting the direction you will go. Did you ever sail with a hydrovane? Because i like the concept not having lines to the wheel.

I wonder if you could share with me how much you spend a month so I can get an understanding of how much I need before casting off my lines.. I understand it's a difficult Q to answer but just a rough idea would be a great start for me.... Cheers And PLEASE keep the clips coming!!!!!!!!

Hi tikimangolux, I absolutely loved and often miss my Westsail 32 'Valiant.' I sold her to a guy who renamed her "Voodo Child' and sailed her to the Marquesas.. Paragon is much more comfortable and much faster. She can complete an offshore passage in much less time and more comfortably than Valiant could. There's more storage for tools, provisions, water, batteries, clothes, etc... She's just as seaworthy, and just small enough for me to single hand everything when I need to.

free places to drop the hook are getting harder and harder to find look forward to video of the inside of the boat. I followed the adventure of this boat for a while

@twblaw, Thanks, Marina de Cascais was was a pretty equipped and fancy marina with over 650 slips. Many big sailboats crossing the Atlantic in the upcoming ARC convoy were berthed there. Not sure what the slip cost was, but assume it's at the high end of the scale. They have an informative website, but the prices aren't listed... I wish there were more free anchorage options throughout Europe..

very interesting. The marina looks nice and I was wondering what the cost for a slip there is for comparison purposes. Like the boat.
