Hi. Nice video about drilling windows. But do I need to use any tansparent tape to close the windows from the inside, before installing the LEDs to avoid light bleeding? Do you have a video for that? thanks.Nice job.

Hey "Scratchin" you might want to consider investing in a good set of "Needle Files" for doing tiny work like the windows of plastic spaceship models. Needle files come in a wide array and variety of different shapes and sizes, including triangles, flat, round half round, tapered, straight, and all manner of sizes and shapes. A needle file set would serve you well when cutting and shaping tiny openings such as windows. They offer superior control and more accurately shape tiny square openings like windows.
You might also want to invest in a set of micro-drills for drilling. Most standard drills won't work too well. "Dremel" makes a nice selection of tiny "micro-drill' bits. Micro-milling drill bits are also a good investment because they can be used for drilling and doing sideways cutting. I see you already have a "Flex-shaft" drilling tool, so you have the basics.
If you are going to continue working on building models that require drilling and cutting square openings, I strongly suggest a needle file set. They are easily and readily available at any hardware or automotive store and are fairly inexpensive. Online stores like "JC Whitney & Harbor Freight Tools" are great resources for inexpensive and readily available tools and can often be cheaper than the same types sold in hobby shops and stores... -
I wonder why there are so few videos on this subject. I like this one, but it seems that I am hopelessly lost as I was wanting to light my 1400 scale Enterprise E. The windows are much narrower than the defiant in this video as well as different sizes. I do not believe I would have the precision to do this. Has anyone tried to melt the window openings? I'm envisioning a tool much like a soldering iron that has interchangeable heads that are the proper shape and size that could be used to melt thru the plastic in one step. Thumbs up.

Ugh... I am Working on my Windows in the USS defiant. But the plastic is sticking to the drill bit. Every Windows i have to clean the drill bit. Aaand i guess i ruined the kit with oven cleaner when i tried to get the old paint of. I think the plastic is to soft now. Maybe thats why the plastic Stücks to the drill bit. But i will finishe the model anyway.
It only can go easier.... -
True that, Mariellche! A great few windows to practice on! I have a 1:1400 scale Enterprise C in the works. The window number is very close to four digits on that build. Too bad I'm not doing a vid series on that.....

Awesome and helpfull Video. I am using the dremel 3000 too. And ofcourse a Hobbyknife. I like the Defiant for the little number of Windows though.

In this video, cutting holes or windows in model kits is demonstrated.
